Job summary

RedRock Consulting is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a large-scale technology programme, delivering modern applications within a complex enterprise environment. Location options include Leeds, Sheffield or London with travel up to once per month.

You will design and build robust RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot, implement automated testing, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines on AWS and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Strong, recent experience developing applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience developing front-end applications – Thymeleaf and GOV.UK Design System desirable.
• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, including API versioning.
• Experience with OpenAPI / Swagger.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, Spring Data JPA and Hibernate.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests using JUnit 5.
• Experience with automated UI regression testing, ideally Playwright with Java.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, including GitHub Actions and Helm.
• Experience working with AWS and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of observability, monitoring and structured logging, using OpenSearch and Prometheus.
• Strong understanding of software design principles and design patterns.
• Senior-level: technical leadership, mentoring and supporting other developers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java Spring Boot applications within a large-scale programme.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs with proper versioning.
• Contribute to API design and testing strategies.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor other developers.
• Collaborate with frontend teams using Thymeleaf and GOV.UK Design System.
