Job summary

Maxwell Bond is recruiting a Senior Java Engineer for a fixed-term contract in London (Canary Wharf). You will design, build and operate backend services, APIs and cloud-native microservices on regulated financial platforms.

The role demands strong Java/Kotlin expertise, hands-on AWS experience, and a collaborative, delivery-focused mindset. Immediate availability preferred for September start.

Qualifications

• 4-5 years hands-on experience with Java and/or Kotlin.
• Commercial experience with AWS (preferred), Azure or GCP.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and automation.
• Strong testing knowledge: unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance tests.
• Strong backend development skills: RESTful APIs, microservices, distributed systems.
• Experience across the JVM ecosystem and production systems.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building and maintaining scalable APIs, cloud-native microservices and backend services.
• Developing distributed and event-driven systems, using messaging and asynchronous processing.
• Helping shape technical and architectural decisions, balancing long-term improvements with immediate delivery needs.
• Supporting live production systems, troubleshooting issues and helping to improve reliability and operational resilience.
• Collaborating with engineers, architects, product teams and business stakeholders to deliver effective technical solutions.
• Mentoring and supporting other engineers, encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous development.
