Job summary

Oliver Bernard is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering a major financial services project in London.

This is a hands-on role focused on clean, maintainable code, automated testing and continuous delivery in an Agile environment. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, architects and product specialists to drive design and engineering best practices.

Hybrid- London 3 days per week in the office (Mandatory)

We’re looking for Senior Java Developers to join a high-performing engineering team working on a major financial services project in London.

This is a hands‑on engineering role for developers who care about clean, maintainable code, automated testing and continuous delivery. You’ll work in a modern Agile environment alongside experienced engineers, architects, product specialists and other technology teams.

What you’ll be doing

• Designing, developing and delivering high-quality Java applications and services
• Building robust, scalable solutions within a complex financial environment
• Driving Test-Driven Development (TDD) and strong automated testing practices
• Developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and supporting continuous delivery
• Working collaboratively within an Agile/Scrum team
• Contributing to technical design, architecture and engineering best practices
• Reviewing code and helping raise engineering standards across the team
• Troubleshooting complex technical issues and improving application performance and reliability
• Working closely with product and business stakeholders to deliver valuable outcomes

What we’re looking for

• Strong commercial experience developing applications with Java
• Excellent understanding of TDD, unit testing and automated testing
• Strong experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices
• Solid experience working in Agile development environments
• Good understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns and clean code
• Experience with REST APIs, microservices and distributed systems
• Comfortable working with Git and modern development tooling
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Experience within financial services, banking, trading or another highly regulated environment would be highly desirable
• Work on a significant finance-sector technology project
• Modern engineering culture with a genuine focus on TDD, automation and continuous delivery
• Strong emphasis on technical quality and engineering best practice
• Hybrid working: 3 days per week in London
