Job summary

Evantis Consulting is seeking an experienced Java Developer to design, develop and maintain high-performance Java applications for a regulated financial services environment. You will work in cross-functional teams with architects, BAs and product owners to deliver robust, secure solutions.

The role focuses on Java 8/11/17+, Spring Framework, microservices, REST APIs, and cloud/DevOps practices in a banking context. Hybrid working arrangements are available.

Qualifications

Extensive Java experience in banking or regulated environments.
Proficiency with Spring Framework and microservices architecture.
Experience in RESTful API development and relational databases.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools.
Cloud experience (AWS, Azure or GCP) desirable; containerisation with Docker/Kubernetes is a plus.

Responsibilities

Design and develop Java-based applications and microservices.
Work within Agile/Scrum teams to deliver high-quality software.
Collaborate with architects and senior engineers on solution design.
Write clean, well-tested code (unit and integration tests).
Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices.
Integrate with internal/third-party banking systems and APIs.
Ensure development meets security, compliance, and regulatory standards.
Troubleshoot and optimise existing applications.

We are working with a leading financial services organisation who are investing heavily in their technology function. As part of an ongoing digital transformation programme, they are looking to bring on board an experienced Java Developer to join their growing engineering team.

The Role

As a Java Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance, scalable Java applications within a complex banking environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including architects, business analysts, and product owners to deliver robust, secure solutions that meet the demands of a regulated financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop Java-based applications and microservices
Work within Agile/Scrum delivery teams to deliver high quality software
Collaborate with architects and senior engineers on solution design
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code (unit and integration testing)
Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
Integrate with internal and third-party banking systems and APIs
Ensure all development meets security, compliance, and regulatory standards
Troubleshoot, debug, and optimise existing applications

Required Skills & Experience

Strong commercial experience in Java development (Java 8, 11, or 17+)
Experience working within banking, financial services, or a regulated environment
Proficiency with Spring Boot and/or Spring Framework
Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful API development
Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps)
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) desirable
Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) desirable
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
