Job summary

Citigroup Inc. in Belfast (Hybrid) seeks an experienced Java developer to design, implement and support trading platform applications. You will work on core services, APIs, and distributed systems with modern tooling, across multi-site teams.

Qualifications

• Strong Java developer with hands-on experience.
• REST API and authentication (OAuth/Basic).
• Messaging systems experience (Kafka preferred, RabbitMQ, etc.).
• Experience with SQL databases (Oracle/SQL Server).
• Java Multithreading and Web Services (SOAP/REST).
• Distributed systems development experience.
• Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Platform Support & Enhancement: Build and maintain common solutions for trading platform monitoring, trade reconciliation, application recovery, and other essential support functions.
• Core Development: Participate in design sessions with the development team across multiple locations.
• Agile SDLC: Evaluate and adopt new tools to improve delivery quality in line with industry trends.
• Continuous Improvement: Analyze existing software and propose design/architecture improvements.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Communicate requirements and design decisions with stakeholders across teams.
• Production liaison: Collaborate with production support for troubleshooting and debugging.
• Standards: Ensure best practices and coding standards are followed across the lifecycle.
• Documentation: Provide user and technical documentation for applications.
• Performance & Scalability: Ensure applications meet performance targets and scale as needed.
• AI tooling: Utilize AI coding assistants and AI-powered SDLC processes.

Project description:

Unity is the global authority for business transactions across Citi, covering transactions across all asset classes in capital markets, commercial payments, account management and more. At its core Unity provides a unique reference that keeps with a transaction for its entire lifetime thereby allowing full traceability from front office to back office providing great business benefit.

This role is for a developer position responsible for accomplishing results through hands on development/bug fixes of our Java application. The overall objective of this role is to drive applications development through programming activities.

Responsibilities

• Platform Support & Enhancement: Build and maintain common solutions for trading platform monitoring, trade reconciliation, application recovery, and other essential support functions.

• Core Development: Participate in design sessions with the development team, both employees and vendors located across multiple locations
  
• Agile SDLC pipeline: Evaluate and adopt new development tools, libraries, and approaches to improve delivery quality by aligning with latest industry trends
  
• Continuous Improvement: Analyze existing software systems and propose solutions to improve overall design, architecture, and efficiency
  
• Cross functional Collaboration: Communicate with stakeholders to help shape requirements and de
  sign decisions
  
• Liasing with production support teams in troubleshooting and debugging applications
• Ensure that best practices and standards are followed as part of the application development life cycle.
• Provide user/support documentation
• Ensure applications meet performance and scalability requirements
• Comfortable in using AI based coding assistants and AI powered SDLC processes
  

Mandatory Skills

• Strong commercial experience as a Java developer. This will be tested during interview stage
• Experience in REST API and authentication mechanisms (OAuth/Basic Authentication)
• Messaging Systems experience in any of the following middleware technologies (Kafka preferrable, Nats, Solace, TiBCo, RabbitMQ etc.)
• Experience working with SQL and databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, Hadoop etc.
• Experience with Java Multithreading/Concurrency, Web Services (SOAP/REST), DB2 Database, JMS, MQ, NDM, SFTP
• Acquainted with industry best practices and standards, software development tools and techniques
• Experience in developing distributed systems
• Experience in the use of Containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
  

Desirable skills

• Experience in Low Latency Software Development in a microservices environment high performance architectures and high throughput applications is a plus
• Experience in C++ or C# is beneficial
• Experience in SBE
• Experience with JNI is a plus
• Ability to work with distributed teams across multiple time zones
  

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or similar discipline
