Queen Square Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer to design and build high-performance real-time data processing platforms in a large enterprise environment. The role focuses on Java 17+, Spring Boot, Kafka and distributed systems with sub-second processing times.

Key responsibilities include developing low-latency backend applications, event-driven architectures, real-time CDC using Debezium, and deploying on Kubernetes with Docker.

Qualifications

• 8+ years' Java backend development.
• Strong hands-on Java 17+ development.
• Strong Spring Boot and Microservices experience.
• Deep experience with Apache Kafka, Kafka Streams and/or Kafka Connect.
• Experience with low-latency / high-throughput applications.
• Concurrency, multithreading, JVM tuning and performance engineering.
• Strong SQL and data engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance, low-latency backend applications using Java 17+.
• Build real-time data processing solutions handling high-volume transactional workloads.
• Develop event-driven architectures using Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns.
• Build scalable Spring Boot microservices and backend APIs.
• Implement real-time CDC solutions using Debezium or similar technologies.
• Architect distributed systems capable of processing millions of events with sub-100ms latency.
• Optimise application performance through profiling, concurrency, JVM tuning and latency analysis.
• Build resilient services using caching, asynchronous processing and circuit-breaker patterns.
• Deploy and operate containerised applications using Kubernetes and Docker.
• Troubleshoot production issues using Dynatrace, Splunk and Grafana.
• Perform root-cause analysis, code reviews and drive engineering best practices.
