Job summary

MASS is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to maintain and secure on-premises infrastructure in a highly secure environment. You’ll lead third-line incidents, drive VMware and Windows Server improvements, and ensure continuity through robust backup and change-management practices.

Based in Corsham (SN13) with on-site duties, you will collaborate with internal teams to deliver reliable, high-performance IT services and play a key role in shaping our secure, resilient infrastructure portfolio.

Qualifications

• Proven server infrastructure support and administration.
• Solid VMware technologies experience (vSphere/ESXi/vCenter).
• Hands-on Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory administration.

Responsibilities

We’re looking for a dependable, hands-on Senior IT Systems Engineer to help keep our secure environments running efficiently. From third-line issue resolution to contributing to infrastructure improvements and projects, this is a varied role with a strong focus on virtualisation and Windows Server technologies. If you're calm under pressure, methodical in your work, and keen to have a meaningful impact in a high-assurance setting, this could be your next move.

This is a role for a seasoned infrastructure engineer who’s confident supporting on-premise systems in a highly secure, air-gapped environment. You’ll take ownership of third-line incidents, contribute to technical upgrades, and play an active role in maintaining availability and performance across our virtual and physical environments.

Your day will include supporting and improving VMware infrastructure, administering Windows Server environments, and helping ensure continuity through effective backup, recovery, and change management practices.

You’ll work on site at our unique facility to support and improve air-gapped infrastructure. This is a collaborative, hands-on role, working closely with internal delivery teams in a high-trust environment.

How you’ll support us

You’ll provide reliable third-line support, resolving incidents and troubleshooting issues across our secure infrastructure. Day to day, you’ll maintain and administer Microsoft Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, while supporting and enhancing our VMware-based virtual infrastructure. You’ll also manage backup and recovery processes using Veeam, ensuring data resilience and business continuity. Part of your role will include keeping technical documentation up to date, and contributing to service stability through proactive maintenance, system improvements, and adherence to change control processes.

We’re expecting that you’ve done this role before, so you’ll know how to do it whilst spinning multiple plates:

Essential experience

• Proven experience in server infrastructure support and administration
• Solid knowledge of VMware technologies (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy

Desirable experience

• Exposure to HP infrastructure (e.g. Synergy, OneView, SAN)
• SharePoint 2016 support and administration
• Familiarity with Windows Server roles such as DFS, DHCP, DNS, Clustering
• Experience with Veeam backup and replication tools
• Understanding of ITIL principles and service management
• Basic Linux knowledge
