As a Senior Software Engineer for the iPlayer Mobile team, you will have the opportunity to have a leading role in an engineering team that delivers an intuitive and engaging streaming experience to millions of audience members every day.

To be successful in this role you will need a good understanding of object-oriented programming, clean architecture, and test-driven development. We usually work in Swift/Objective-C (iOS) so experience with these languages and the mobile ecosystem is essential.

We are a small, self-organising and highly collaborative team of engineers, testers, UX designers, technical architects and product owners. We value our engineers, offering regular training and development opportunities, as well as '10% time' - allowing dedicated time for self-improvement, learning and innovation.

We take the time to reflect and improve on how we're working via team retrospectives and mentoring. We're a hard-working team who are supportive, care about each other, and promote a healthy work-life balance with opportunities for flexible working hours and a friendly working environment.

You will have a real opportunity to influence the future of BBC iPlayer, and make it the indispensable video destination for all of the UK public.

Main Responsibilities:

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary colleagues to breakdown product requirements into technical deliverables.

Contribute to the technical implementation of product features as part of a team or pair programming.

Advocate for and follow engineering best practises within the team.

Ensure engineering output is high quality, fit for purpose, and thoroughly tested.

Drive continuous team improvement through fast feedback loops.

Share knowledge within the team and across iPlayer.

Support recruitment and training of new team members.

Are You The Right Candidate?

Strong iOS development experience with a solid understanding of architecture and design principles.

Proficiency in Swift and SwiftUI, with working knowledge of Objective-C and UIKit.

Deep understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and decoupled design.

Demonstrated experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) to produce high-quality, reliable software.

Proficiency in version control systems like Git and working in collaborative coding environments.

Proven ability to write maintainable code in team-based projects.

Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to evolving software requirements.

Desirables:

Experience with Continuous Integration/Deployment in mobile apps

Web services integration (REST, JSON) in a mobile environment

Knowledge of Amazon Web Services

Experience of building accessible applications

Experience of mentoring and coaching more junior team members

Interview Process:

Shortlisted candidates for this Senior iOS Software Engineer will be required to attend a two-stage interview process.

The two stages will consist of:

A values based Interview - This will consist of values-based questions (approximately 60 Mins).
