Senior iOS Developer
About Marshmallow

We build financial products that accelerate the economic freedom for people who move across borders. We started with car insurance - insuring over a million drivers - and we're scaling beyond. Tens of millions of people move countries each year, facing overlooked financial challenges. Our future is in building financial products around their needs to positively impact their lives.

How we work

We're really proud of the culture we've created. We push for progress every day, because we know that we'll only hit big milestones by taking lots of smaller steps. We're always open to helping our team mates, sharing our ideas, experience and knowledge to solve problems together. We take risks, think creatively and experiment relentlessly to meet our customer's needs, and never pass blame when things go wrong. We encourage people at all levels to take ownership of their work, and to be bold in challenging how we do things. Everyone has a voice and the opportunity to make an impact.

And autonomy and ownership are only possible with clear direction. That's why we collaborate to do in-depth planning twice a year, and make sure we leave with clear goals and objectives that flow from top to bottom. To make sure we're as aligned as possible across functions, most of our work rolls up into three tribes: Acquisition, Retention & Claims. Each tribe has multiple teams embedded in it, working cross-functionally to do great work.

We're so excited for all of the challenges up ahead, and we need more people to help us tackle them! If life at Marshmallow sounds like it could be for you, explore our Culture Handbook to find out more.

Engineering at Marshmallow

Our engineers are at the heart of the solutions. They work on product builds from start to finish, solving lots of challenges to help us build fast and scale up! Our engineers cover a range of skills across frontend, backend, fullstack, iOS and android and work alongside designers, data scientists, researchers and product managers within our product teams.

Our product teams include: the Growth team, the Efficiency team, and the Claims team (to name a few!) Each team sets its own roadmap and actively pushes our codebase forward.

The Mobile Team you'd be joining

Our Mobile Team's mission is to build the best app in the business. That means creating a truly customer-first experience that makes the difficult (but essential) things easy, quick and intuitive.

You'll work directly with our users to get a full picture of our customers and the problems we can solve for them. And you'll do that as part of a cross-functional team, working alongside product teams across tribes to build a platform that's essential to delivering an inclusive, easy-to-use, and empathetic Marshmallow experience.

What you'll be doing
  • Working in a product team enabling a smooth app experience for tens of thousands of policies, ensuring that we provide customers with affordable, instant, and inclusive insurance
  • Help shape technical direction through lightweight scoping, estimation, and planning. We follow Agile principles without rigid processes—blending the best of Scrum, Kanban, and other high-performing team rituals. We're looking for adaptable engineers who thrive in flexible, fast-moving environments.
  • Work closely with the cross-functional team members to understand requirements, build solutions, deliver functionality, write automation tests and build continuous delivery pipelines all the way through to deployment, monitoring and supporting these systems in production
  • Help us evolve our architecture to optimise for product delivery speed
  • Participate in setting the quarterly team OKRs
What we're looking for from you
  • 5+ years of experience in iOS development
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams in a metric-driven framework, ideally OKRs
  • Strong expertise in Swift, with hands-on experience in app development using either UIKit or SwiftUI, with a preference for SwiftUI.
  • Actively contribute to the growth of those around you by offering mentorship, sharing knowledge, and helping to build a culture of continuous learning and support.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in reviewing designs and assessing their suitability for mobile applications.
  • Skilled in working closely with various stakeholders including Product, Design, and fellow engineers to align objectives and drive successful outcomes.
  • Worked in a high growth start-up environment or product-focused environment.
Our Tech Stack
  • SwiftUI for new features (approx. 90% of the app)
  • Modular architecture using local Swift packages
  • Automated testing: unit tests, snapshot tests, and UI tests
  • Bitrise for continuous integration
  • Fastlane for TestFlight and App Store deployments
  • SwiftLint, SwiftFormat, and Danger for automated code styling and checks
  • We use Tuist to help us manage our modular architecture and speed up our builds.
Perks of the job
  • Hybrid working - Spend 3 days with your team in our collaborative London office. The rest is up to you!
  • Designed to reward and recognise high-performance
  • Flexible benefits budget - £50 per month to spend on a Ben Mastercard, meaning you get your own benefits budget to spend on things you want. Whether that's subscriptions, night classes (puppy yoga, anyone?), the big shop or a forest of houseplants. Pretty much anything goes
  • Sabbatical Leave - Get a 4-week fully paid sabbatical after being with us for 4 years
  • Work From Anywhere - 4 weeks of work from anywhere to use, with no need to go to the office
  • Mental wellbeing support - Access therapy and mental health sessions through Oliva

  • Private health care - Enjoy all the benefits Vitality has to offer, including reduced gym memberships and discounts on smartwatches
  • Medical cash plan - To help you with the costs of dental, optical and physio (plus more!)
  • Tech scheme - Get the latest tech for less

Plus all the rest; 33 days holiday, pension, cycle-to-work scheme, monthly team socials and company-wide socials every month!

We break it up into 4 stages:

  • Initial call with Tech Talent Acquisition team via Zoom (40 mins)
  • A take-home assessment (several days at your discretion) which will be reviewed by our Engineers.
  • Follow up technical interview with our Engineers to walk us through your take-home task and questions around your past experience and projects via Zoom (90 mins)
  • A culture & past experience interview with one of our Engineering Managers to check that your ways of working aligns with our processes, mission and values (1 hour)
