The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Intelligent Mobility (IM) team in the West to support the delivery of an expanding project portfolio across the UK and internationally. This role will support, at a senior level, the provision of technical advice and design services to deliver technology solutions for transport systems that balance economic, environmental, and societal needs. Responsibilities include quality assurance, governance, technical delivery, stakeholder engagement, and contributing to business development.

Transport networks are increasingly data-rich and technology-enabled. Our clients deploy technology solutions to improve network management, safety, environmental impacts, and traveler information. We advise on all aspects of transport technology systems, including strategy, design, and operation, with focus areas like ITS, signaling, traffic control, mobility pricing, smart ticketing, and connected/autonomous vehicles. The position involves collaborating with team members on design, specification, development, data analysis, reporting, and project bids.

Is this role right for you?

As an experienced team member, you will provide technical support for existing IM clients, lead project delivery within deadlines and budgets, enhance Arup’s profile with key clients including DfT, Highways, and international/private-sector clients. You will contribute to a wide range of projects and bids, ensure high standards in designs and documentation, and perform roles such as strategic advice and technical consultancy. You will work with the IM leader in the West to develop a work-winning plan for regional growth.

Requirements:

• Working towards Chartership status or equivalent experience.
• Background in project management for systems and technology deployment.
• Ability to apply systems thinking to design and delivery.
• Skill in understanding complex issues and client requirements.
• Experience supporting bidding and business development activities.
