Job description

A key part of HL's technology and transformation strategy is the delivery of modern, cloud native integration and data capabilities that can be adopted across the business.

These capabilities enable HL's transformation journeys by providing scalable, secure, and reusable integrations, APIs, and data products that act as trusted sources of business information.

The Senior Integration Engineer role has a dual focus:

* Designing and building cloud native integrations and APIs on AWS

* Engineering data pipelines and hubs that support data reuse and provide reliable, well governed data assets

* Liaising with wider Product engineering and business teams to drive integration builds and patterns for adoption across the organisation.

This role sits within the Integration team and works closely with Data Platform, Architecture, and Product teams to deliver end to end integration and data hub solutions.

What you'll be doing
Business Engagement & Strategic Integration Direction
  • Engage closely with business stakeholders and cross‑functional technical teams to understand current and future integration needs
  • Help define and shape forward looking integration and API patterns that scale across the organisation
  • Translate business objectives into pragmatic integrations and data solutions, ensuring delivery is value‑led rather than purely technology‑driven
  • Influence integration architecture decisions by balancing strategic direction, delivery feasibility, and measurable business outcomes
  • Act as a trusted technical partner to the business, clearly articulating trade‑offs, benefits, and opportunities related to integration approaches
  • Lead the design and implementation of cloud‑native integration solutions using modern AWS services and patterns
  • Build and maintain secure, scalable, and reusable APIs that expose core business and data capabilities
  • Apply API‑first and contract‑driven design principles to support long‑term reusability and governance
  • Implement synchronous, asynchronous, and event‑driven integration patterns as appropriate
  • Own and lead the engineering delivery of core data hubs and integration‑led data pipelines
  • Design and implement reliable, high‑quality data pipelines aligned with HL's SDLC and architectural principles
  • Collaborate with the Data Platform team to ensure solutions align with AWS and Snowflake standards
  • Contribute to the consolidation and distribution of key data domains into reusable data products
Quality, Testing & DevOps
  • Design and implement automated testing strategies across integrations, APIs, and data pipelines
  • Drive towards a gold‑standard, fully automated testing suite, including unit, integration, data quality, and contract testing
  • Embed build, test, and deployment processes into CI/CD pipelines using DevOps best practices
  • Ensure solutions are observable and production‑ready through logging, monitoring, alerting, and resilience patterns
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Work across integration, data, and platform teams to enable consistent engineering patterns and standards
  • Support HL's transformation programmes by leading solutions for reliable, real‑time, and batch data movement
  • Influence integration and data engineering best practices across the team
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers where required
About you
Key Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience designing and delivering solutions on AWS, including services such as:
    • API Gateway, Lambda, EventBridge, SQS/SNS
    • CloudWatch, IAM, VPC networking concepts
  • Environment promotion and configuration management
  • Secure, automated deployments
  • Hands‑on experience building APIs and integration services using TypeScript
  • Strong understanding of API‑first, RESTful, and event‑driven architectures
  • Experience with schema versioning, contract testing, and backward‑compatibility strategies
  • Experience building and operating data pipelines on cloud data platforms
  • Strong working knowledge of dbt for data transformations, testing, and documentation
  • Familiarity with Snowflake data modelling, optimisation, and cost‑aware design
  • Understanding of data quality, lineage, and observability concepts
  • CI/CD pipeline implementation for applications, infrastructure, and data workloads
  • Strong focus on test automation and engineering quality
  • Ability to operate production systems, including incident support and root‑cause analysis
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Comfortable working across integration, data, and platform teams
  • Able to influence architecture and engineering standards
  • Willing to mentor and support less‑experienced engineers
  • Pragmatic, delivery‑focused mindset with strong ownership of outcomes
