Job description

Build the world you want to live in with a career in the infrastructure property sector.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Senior Surveyor to join the Infrastructures Team based in Leeds.

You will be joining the Northern Infrastructure team, which is a team of over 60 specialists advising clients within the Transport, Energy, Utilities, Regeneration, Minerals and Waste, and Telecoms sectors. Existing clients include National Highways, National Grid, Network Rail, HS2, Local Authorities, and The Crown Estate, along with a wide range of private sector clients, investors, charities, and energy developers.

We offer a highly competitive salary package, including a fantastic benefits package with flexible options such as additional leave, health cash plans, cycle to work scheme, and more. We welcome applications from those seeking flexible or agile working arrangements, which can be discussed at the application stage.

Main tasks:

  1. Negotiation of heads of terms, option agreements, and voluntary agreements for land acquisition.
  2. Developing and undertaking new business/relationship opportunities, focusing on Claimants/landowners.
  3. Landowner and stakeholder engagement.
  4. Negotiation of disturbance claims following works.
  5. Securing consents for access across third-party land for works.
  6. CPO promotion work.
  7. Land and property valuation.
  8. Negotiation of compensation claims arising from construction works.
  9. Contributing to the development of efficient internal systems and processes, optimizing IT and resources.
  10. Implementing policies and ensuring legal compliance.
  11. Managing surveyors within the team.
  12. Mentoring and coaching junior team members.
  13. Adhering to RICS Rules of Conduct or relevant professional standards.

This job description is not exhaustive; additional duties may be assigned to ensure departmental efficiency.

What will it take to be successful?

Ideally, you will be RICS qualified and a registered RICS valuer with extensive PQE in a general practice or infrastructure surveying role, with a business development focus and excellent customer service skills. Experience with Compulsory Purchase is desirable but not essential, as training is available through our Infrastructure Academy. You should have a good working knowledge of relevant legislation, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ambition, a commitment to continuous self-development, and the ability to develop new and maintain existing relationships are crucial. Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, friendliness, empathy, diplomacy, and approachability are essential, given the high level of client and landowner engagement. Flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are required, as is a full driving license due to travel requirements.
