Overview

A government department client is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer to join them on a 4 month contract. This position will be in London.

Job Summary: Our client's Digital Services (DS) Operations have an opportunity for a Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer (SIOE) to join the in-house technical team. The SIOE plays a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of the organisation's IT operations. This position is responsible for the management and optimisation of the hybrid cloud infrastructure which supports business-critical services.

Core Cloud Infrastructure (Azure and On-Prem Infrastructure)
  • Azure Resource Management: Expert in deploying and managing Azure resources using ARM templates, Azure CLI, and the Azure portal.
  • Azure Virtual Networking: Configuration of VNets, NSGs, VPN gateways, ExpressRoute, and Azure Firewall.
  • Compute and Storage: Provisioning and managing VMs, Azure Files, Blob Storage, and Azure Backup.
  • Monitoring and Governance: Implementation of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Azure Policy for compliance and performance tracking.
  • Identity and Access: Deep knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), including Conditional Access, RBAC, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
  • Physical Infrastructure: Experience with building and maintaining hyperconverged infrastructure (compute and storage) preferably with VMWARE and Nutanix.
  • Physical networks: Experience with maintaining networks, preferably Cisco.
  • MS Active Directory: Proven experience with managing MS Active Directory (including DHCP, DNS and PKI).
Microsoft 365 Administration
  • Exchange Online & Teams: Advanced administration of mail flow, retention policies, Teams governance, and hybrid configurations.
  • Endpoint Management: Expert in Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, and Configuration Manager (SCCM) for Windows, iOS, and Android device lifecycle management.
  • Security & Compliance: Implementation of DLP, sensitivity labels, email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), and Secure Score optimisation.
  • SharePoint & OneDrive: Administration of collaboration platforms, including migration and access control.
Automation & Scripting
  • PowerShell: Advanced scripting for automation of administrative tasks across Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Integration: Experience with Graph API, Logic Apps, and automation runbooks for cross-platform orchestration.
Operational Excellence
  • Incident & Problem Management: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across cloud services.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Creation of SOPs, runbooks, and technical documentation for internal teams.
  • Project Leadership: Experience leading cloud migration, modern workplace, or security enhancement projects.
  • Internal and External collaboration: Proven experience of managing external technical vendors to deliver high quality digital solutions.
Certifications (Desirable)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert (MS-102).
  • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (SC-900).
  • ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management qualification.
