Job summary

Spinwell is recruiting a Senior Infrastructure Engineer for a 12‑month contract across Hybrid locations including Blackpool, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds. You will manage major incidents, lead a team of engineers and drive secure, scalable infrastructure using Oracle RAC/Dataguard, RMAN, OCI and AWS.

The role involves IaC with Terraform and Ansible, cloud security practices, database administration and collaboration with senior stakeholders to shape the digital infrastructure

Qualifications

• Oracle Database technologies (RAC, Dataguard, RMAN) and public cloud (OCI/AWS).
• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Ansible.
• Security procedures incl. network segregation in public cloud and data in transit encryption.
• Migration testing with Oracle and AWS; secure authentication with OIDC for GitLab.

Responsibilities

• Manage major incidents and act as escalation point for service incidents.
• Lead a team of senior engineers and provide expert technical guidance.
• Maintain risk registers with mitigation actions and updates.
• Collaborate with senior leaders on technical choices and roadmaps.
• Maintain and update repositories with Git; support database solutions in cloud.
• Support highly available mission critical databases (Oracle RAC, Dataguard, RMAN).

Spinwell is recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SENIOR INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER

• Work with and maintain operational relationships with suppliers ensuring services and products are delivered aligned to industry best practice, regulatory and contractual requirements
• Act as a major incident manager and escalation point for all service-related incidents
• Responsibility of the leading a team of Senior Engineers, providing expert advice or dealing with complex problems and providing specialist service/solution technical support
• Provide updates for the risk register for individual technical area, ensuring appropriate management and mitigation plans and actions are implemented
• Work closely with other senior leaders and teams, sharing information, providing advice and support around technical choices and implementation approach.
• Providing specialist knowledge and experience to input into the wider digital infrastructure strategy and development roadmap
• Oracle Database technologies (RAC, Dataguard, RMAN Backup and Recovery) and Public Cloud Technologies (particularly OCI and AWS)
• Writing Infrastructure as Code and debugging Terraform and Ansible
• Managing and maintaining Security procedures including:
  • Implementing network segregation in a public cloud environment (preferably AWS)
  • Incorporating transport encryption to protect data in transit (preferably Oracle)
  • Understanding implementation of database encryption options (preferably Oracle)

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SENIOR INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER

• Oracle Database technologies (RAC, Dataguard, RMAN Backup and Recovery) and Public Cloud Technologies (particularly OCI and AWS)
• Writing Infrastructure as Code and debugging Terraform and Ansible
• Managing and maintaining Security procedures including:
  • Implementing network segregation in a public cloud environment (preferably AWS)
  • Incorporating transport encryption to protect data in transit (preferably Oracle)
  • Understanding implementation of database encryption options (preferably Oracle)
• Conducting Migration Testing (preferably through Oracle and AWS) and implementing secure authentication with OIDC for GitLab runners
• Maintaining and updating repositories with Git
• Oracle RDBMS 11.2-23ai experience of supporting Oracle RAC including ASM, AFD, HANFS, TAF. Additional experience of multitenant, TDE and TLS desirable.
• Specifically in a Linux/Aix OS environment
• RMAN Backup and recovery
• OEM, OCI’s Db Management
• Patching and Upgrade experience
• Track record of supporting highly available mission critical databases
• Dataguard setup and configuration
• Data migration tooling Datapump, Golden Gate, ZDM
• Exadata and Base Database configuration experience in OCI
