Job summary

The British Museum is seeking a Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer to join the Information Services team in Bloomsbury, London. You will own day-to-day network operations, ensure stability, security and performance, and provide technical leadership across infrastructure services.

This role combines hands-on networking with operational oversight, working with Cisco switches (DNAC/ISE), AD/Azure AD and Windows Server, while managing incidents, tickets and projects.

Qualifications

• Significant experience managing enterprise network environments.
• Knowledge of Cisco switching and related security practices.
• Experience with AD/Azure AD, Azure PaaS/IaaS and Windows Server.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operation, maintenance and enhancement of network infrastructure services.
• Monitor health, performance and security of network environments and resolve issues.
• Take ownership of incidents, problems and service requests, ensuring SLAs are met.
• Provide functional oversight of infrastructure support activities and prioritise workloads.
• Manage networking technologies including switches, routers, wireless networks, firewalls and connectivity services.
• Contribute to infrastructure projects and technology refresh programmes.
• Collaborate with suppliers and third-party support for service delivery.
• Support cyber security initiatives and adhere to policies and best practices.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and diagrams.
• Act as senior escalation point for complex issues.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer to join our Information Services department and play a key role in delivering and supporting critical IT infrastructure across the British Museum.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established infrastructure professional with strong networking expertise who enjoys combining hands-on technical work with operational oversight. Working within a small and collaborative technology team, you will help ensure the stability, security and performance of our network services, supporting colleagues across the organisation to deliver important public and charitable outcomes. In addition, you will provide functional leadership across infrastructure operations, taking ownership of service quality, monitoring workloads, overseeing ticket queues and driving issues through to resolution.

About you

We are looking for a technically strong, self-motivated professional who combines excellent networking expertise with a proactive, solutions-focused and collaborative approach.

You will bring:

• Significant experience supporting and managing enterprise network infrastructure environments.
• Strong knowledge and experience with Cisco switching, including DNAC/ISE.
• Some knowledge of Active Directory/Azure AD, Azure Paas/IaaS and Windows Server.
• Experience of network monitoring, performance management and troubleshooting complex technical issues and delivering infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of infrastructure security principles and cyber security best practices.
• Experience working within IT service management frameworks and ticketing systems.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and take ownership of issues through to successful resolution, translating business requirements to technical initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong leadership skills with a collaborative approach and commitment to delivering high-quality services.

Key areas of responsibility

• Lead the day-to-day operation, maintenance and enhancement of network infrastructure services.

• Manage and support networking technologies including switches, routers, wireless networks, firewalls and connectivity services.
• Contribute to infrastructure projects, upgrades and technology refresh programmes.
• Work closely with suppliers and third-party support partners to ensure effective service delivery.
• Support cyber security initiatives and ensure infrastructure services adhere to organisational policies and best practice.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, procedures and network diagrams.
• Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.
