Job summary

Northern Trust seeks a Senior Information Architect to shape the firm’s enterprise data strategy, data modelling standards, and AI-enabled capabilities. You will lead governance across conceptual, logical, and physical models, working across cloud data platforms and contributing to agentic AI-driven data products.

The role requires strong data architecture, engineering, and ontology design skills, with experience in Snowflake and Databricks, and familiarity with AI tooling and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Proven data modelling experience across conceptual, logical and physical levels.
• Hands-on experience with SqlDBM or equivalent.
• Experience with dbt Labs is required or highly desirable.
• Strong Python skills and API integration experience.
• Experience with Snowflake and Databricks platforms, including Cortex AI and Genie.
• Knowledge of OWL, RDF, SPARQL and ontology design.
• Experience with at least one agentic AI framework.
• Experience with AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
• Financial services domain knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of data model concepts and ensure alignment with data mesh and medallion architectures.
• Govern enterprise data model library, enforce naming conventions and versioning.
• Define canonical data entities and lineage across data layers.
• Translate business requirements into rigorous data structures with engineering teams.
• Guide semantic data models for agentic AI solutions.
• Develop semantic models, ontologies, and controlled vocabularies for metadata and search.
• Design data product schemas across Snowflake and Databricks with Delta Lake structures.
• Set architectural guardrails for performance, security, and cost.
• Embed data contracts and data quality across pipelines.
• Support AI-enabled data products using Snowflake Cortex and Databricks Genie.
• Provide governance and participate in architecture review with stakeholders.
• Mentor junior architects and engineers.
