UCAS is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to handle significant and complex legal matters, especially supplier contracts, working within a cross-functional team to provide pragmatic, risk-based guidance. The role supports the wider legal and governance teams while enabling UCAS to meet strategic objectives.

The role requires extensive post-qualification experience, strong drafting skills and the ability to lead negotiations.

Qualifications

• Significant experience providing legal advice on complex commercial contracts or data governance issues.
• Significant post-qualification experience from in-house or private practice.
• Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret contract and data protection terms and identify risks.
• Extensive experience leading contract negotiations.
• Identify legal and commercial risks and propose mitigations.
• Commercial awareness and pragmatism; tailor advice to business needs.
• Excellent communication and ability to explain complex issues clearly.
• Confident in building trust and challenging decisions when needed.
• Support junior lawyers and help develop the team.
• Understand the role of an in-house legal team and contribute to strategic plans.
• Work autonomously and propose actions to achieve UCAS’ objectives.

Responsabilités

• Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of legal services to support UCAS’ business activities.
• Foster strong relationships with stakeholders and act as a trusted advisor on strategic, commercial and risk issues.
• Provide strategic legal advice on procurement projects.
• Draft, negotiate and advise on terms of important commercial contracts with UCAS suppliers and partners.
