Job summary

Relation in London is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to build generative and predictive models of cellular behaviour, with a focus on high-content imaging. Your work will be central to understanding cellular decision-making and enabling novel therapeutic strategies grounded in generative models.

You'll join a team with access to cutting-edge multiomic datasets, advanced computational infrastructure, and an environment that embraces modern ML tooling.

Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent industry experience) in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer vision, biomedical engineering, or closely related field.
• Strong fluency with high-content imaging modalities (cell painting, brightfield) and ability to judge data quality.
• Hands-on experience with deep learning for imaging and evaluating model behavior.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks for ML models, preferably with imaging data.
• Strong Python data-science stack (NumPy, pandas, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
• Familiarity with large (TB-scale) imaging datasets and standard scientific formats.
• Biological grounding and ability to partner with wet lab scientists.
• Bonus: CellProfiler / scikit-image usage and public cell painting datasets.

Responsibilities

• Curate training-ready imaging datasets across cell painting and brightfield assays.
• Design evaluation plans for imaging modalities with ML collaborators.
• Interpret model behavior on cellular morphology and feed insights to modelling decisions.
• Collaborate with wet lab teams from plate design to data delivery.
• Contribute to multi-modal evaluation linking imaging to single-cell data.
• Communicate methodology and findings clearly across the team.
• Keep up-to-date with foundation models for biological imaging and apply relevant advances.
