Job summary

abrdn in Edinburgh is seeking a Senior Identity & Full-Stack Engineer to take technical ownership of our customer-facing IDP and IDaaS platform, while contributing to application, API and cloud engineering initiatives. Based in Edinburgh, this permanent role combines leadership with hands-on work across Microsoft Azure and modern digital technologies to improve security, reliability and user experience.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Identity & Full-Stack Engineer to take technical ownership of our customer-facing identity platform while contributing to application, API and cloud engineering initiatives. Based in Edinburgh, this permanent opportunity combines identity platform leadership with hands‑on software engineering across Microsoft Azure and modern digital technologies. You will play a key role in improving security, reliability, automation and user experience across our digital estate. This is an opportunity to shape critical services, influence engineering standards and continue developing your expertise in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and evolve Aberdeen’s customer‑facing Identity Provider (IDP) and IDaaS platform, ensuring reliability, security and continuous improvement.
• Design and implement authentication, SSO, federation, user lifecycle and access governance solutions using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML and SCIM.
• Build and support cloud‑native applications, APIs and integrations on Microsoft Azure, taking solutions from design through to production support.
• Drive automation and engineering excellence through Terraform, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines and scripting tools.
• Troubleshoot complex incidents, perform root‑cause analysis and strengthen operational resilience across digital services.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical leadership, standards and best practices across Digital Engineering.

About the Candidate

Essential skills and experience:

• Experience operating and supporting Identity Provider or Identity-as-a-Service platforms, ideally Okta but other Identity platforms will be considered.
• Strong knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SSO, MFA and identity security controls.
• Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure, identity integration and cloud‑native services.
• Strong software engineering capability across C# .NET APIs, backend services and secure integrations.
• Experience with Terraform, GitHub, CI/CD automation and scripting tools.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to collaborate, mentor and support colleagues.

Desirable: Okta administration, SCIM provisioning, access governance, GraphQL, Playwright, TypeScript, Terraform‑based infrastructure provisioning, AI‑assisted engineering tools and regulated financial services experience.
