Senior ICT Support Technician

Location

Cornwall, camelford

Grade & Salary

West Plymouth NJC Grade E (Scale points 15-20)

£29,093 - £31,586 per annum

Hours

Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 16:00

Friday 08:00 - 15:30

(37 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum)

Note: Occasional work outside normal hours may be required, with time off in lieu provided.

Reports To

Cornwall Cluster Network Manager

Responsible For

Carrying out management of the network in the Network Manager's absence, under the guidance of Trust ICT Operations Managers.

Key Relationships

Internal and external stakeholders including Trust staff, students, and external contractors.

Job Purpose

To support and maintain ICT software, hardware, and related equipment across the Cornwall Cluster schools, providing technical support to staff and pupils. The role ensures that ICT resources are effectively managed to maximise administration and learning outcomes, supporting the Trust's educational objectives.

Overview
  • Fully support and embrace WeST and school visions and values, prioritising customer experience and educational support.
  • Collaborate with WeST to develop and align schools' ICT visions with educational aspirations.
  • Ensure operational availability and performance of all ICT services in the school environment.
  • Support and align with WeST's operating model and organisational design.
  • Manage, develop, and optimise ICT services to support teaching, learning, management, and administration needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

ICT Support
  • Provide ICT support to staff and students, including guidance to team members.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people in contact with ICT services.
  • Manage ICT resources, equipment, and software to meet curriculum and administration needs.
  • Provide support via Helpdesk system to Trust staff, students, and external customers.
  • Deliver remote support and on-site visits across Trust schools as required.
  • Assist with planning and executing ICT infrastructure projects and upgrades.
  • Offer expert advice in area of specialism, proactively identifying solutions and risks.
  • Maintain and support ICT hardware and software, logging and escalating Helpdesk requests as needed.
  • Provide cover and support across other Trust schools during staff shortages.

Customer Service
  • Maintain a high standard of ICT support for all Trust users.
  • Ensure tasks are completed within SLAs, documenting processes in the support knowledgebase.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all Trust users.

Procurement
  • Assist with sourcing quotations from external suppliers for ICT equipment and services.
  • Conduct site walk-throughs with contractors for quotations and planning.
  • Provide drawings and documentation for cabling and infrastructure work.

Software Management
  • Install, test, and troubleshoot new software.
  • Manage software deployment, desktop configurations, and licensing.
  • Maintain driver and software libraries, including secure storage of media and licences.
  • Assist with server setup and management.
  • Set up and deploy workstations, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • Maintain and support the Schools Information Management System (SIMS).

Hardware Management
  • Check and inventory new ICT equipment, install and secure as needed.
  • Maintain peripherals including scanners, printers, whiteboards, and projectors.
  • Repair network and AV sockets.
  • Maintain data cabinets and network infrastructure.
  • Assist with equipment transfers across Trust sites.

Network Management
  • Manage network user accounts, groups, and email accounts.
  • Assist with maintaining Trust network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
  • Support management of onsite and cloud servers, including upgrades and routine maintenance.
  • Ensure antivirus software is installed and up to date on all systems.
  • Create system images for computers and laptops.
  • Monitor and verify backups, reporting any issues.
  • Evaluate and test new hardware, software, and server equipment.

Projects

Assist the Cornwall Cluster Network Manager in planning and executing ICT projects across Cornwall schools.

General Responsibilities
  • Act in accordance with and promote Trust policies, including Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Equality & Diversity.
  • Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and participate in Performance Development Reviews (PDRs).
  • Contribute to Trust-wide development by sharing best practices and providing/receiving professional feedback.
  • Maintain confidentiality and data governance as per Trust policies.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required to support efficient service delivery.
