Job summary

Deploy Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Protection and Control Design Engineer to lead high-quality protection and control designs for HV substations and power projects across the UK. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with project managers, clients and multidisciplinary teams.

The role focuses on developing protection applications for 11 kV–132 kV feeders, transformers, and busbars, configuring relays, and implementing IEC 61850 and DNP3.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience delivering protection and control design within UK electricity distribution or transmission sectors (11kV-132kV).
• Knowledge of protection relays, relay configuration, logic programming and IEC 61850 engineering.
• Familiarity with ENA, IEC and NPg standards and policies.
• Proficiency in DIGSILENT, ETAP and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed protection application designs for feeders, transformers and busbars from 11 kV to 132 kV, including customer interface schemes.
• Configure relays, write setting files, implement IEC 61850 and DNP3 schemes, and prepare logic documentation.
• Specify CTs/VTs, relays, panels and wiring per NPg standards.
• Provide technical review of designs from ICPs and external teams.
• Conduct protection coordination studies and prepare settings calculations and drawings.
• Ensure compliance with Northern Powergrid standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver projects on time and to quality standards.
• Provide technical support during delivery, including FAT and site commissioning as required.
