Senior HV Plant Substation Design Engineer - Net Zero, Leeds

UK Energy market is undergoing unprecedented change as the country strives towards a net zero carbon target. About the Team:

We are proud to be at the heart of energy industry challenges. Our Power team is growing, delivering across the UK Transmission and Distribution sectors, and supporting other sectors. We are recruiting a Principal Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team.

What you’ll be doing:

• Provide technical leadership on FEED and detailed design for clients like National Grid and SSEN-Transmission.
• Ensure quality assurance and delivery of FEED, detailed design, and bids.
• Manage resources and train team members for FEED and detailed design projects.
• Act as BP141 (or equivalent) assurance engineer as required.
• Review HV plant aspects of projects, including layouts, maintenance access, earthing, mechanical interlocking, busbar calculations, and specifications.
• Serve as Principal Designer Representative when needed.
• Coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Manage tender packages and technical offers related to HV plant.
• Attend and chair design and hazard review meetings, review HV plant design packages.
• Participate in site visits, FAT, and SAT as required.
• Maintain strong communication and teamworking skills.
• Focus on customer needs and business development.

You’ll need to have:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, with UK Transmission sector substation design experience.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
• Leadership/management experience in a similar environment.
• Proven ability to lead engineering projects through asset lifecycles.
• Experience managing teams in EHV substation design (132kV-400kV).
• Experience working with transmission or distribution operators or design consultancies.
• BP141 / TP141 HV Substation qualification or ability to obtain it.
• Effective communication skills with stakeholders.
• Ability to develop client relationships and coach junior engineers.
• Flexibility to travel to client sites.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage priorities.
• Right to work in the UK.
