About the Team:

Our Power team is growing within the energy industry, delivering across Transmission and Distribution sectors in the UK, and supporting other sectors. We are recruiting a Principal Engineer for our Electrical Engineering team to enhance capability and service offering.

What you’ll be doing:

Working in a senior role, you will:

• Provide technical leadership on FEED and detailed design for clients like National Grid and SSEN-Transmission.
• Ensure quality assurance and delivery of FEED, detailed design, and bids.
• Manage resources and training for FEED and detailed design projects.
• Act as BP141 (or equivalent) assurance engineer as needed.
• Review HV plant aspects including layouts, earthing, interlocking, busbar calculations, and specifications.
• Serve as Principal Designer Representative when required.
• Coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Manage tender packages and technical offers for HV plant aspects.
• Attend and lead design and hazard review meetings, site visits, FAT, and SAT as needed.
• Communicate effectively and build client relationships.

You’ll need to have:

Qualifications:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, with UK Substations Design experience.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.

Essential Criteria:

• Leadership/management experience in similar environments.
• Strong understanding of asset lifecycle engineering projects.
• Experience leading EHV substation projects (132kV-400kV).
• Experience with client organizations like transmission or distribution operators.
• BP141 / TP141 HV Substation qualification or ability to obtain it.
• Effective communication, client relationship management, coaching skills.
• Flexibility to travel and work under deadlines.
• Right to work in the UK.
