Role: Senior Human Factors Specialist

Overview: The Senior Human Factors Specialist is responsible for leading the Human Factors aspect in the design and evaluation of the client organisation's facilities and processes related to production and research operations. The goal is to enhance system performance and reliability through user-centred design and assessment principles. Candidates must be prepared to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the Human Factors Lead Technical Authority and manage the Human Factors Discipline for project design and assurance activities.
  • Promote awareness and dissemination of Human Factors knowledge, liaising with industry counterparts, conducting exchange programs, and organising training.
  • Lead the creation of Human Factors assessments and technical contributions for safety justifications of facilities handling hazardous materials.
  • Develop and maintain company-wide Human Factors standards, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Uphold high standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality, fostering teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with ESH&Q standards and statutory requirements.
  • Act as the interface with regulators, providing expertise in design and peer review processes.
  • Champion continuous improvement in Human Factors review processes.
  • Lead Human Factors assessments and technical inputs for safety cases and documentation.
  • Develop and implement corporate Human Factors guidance.
  • Design and deliver Human Factors training.
  • Provide internal Human Factors consultancy services.
  • Lead Human Factors research aligned with organisational activities.
  • Build relationships with external resource providers.
  • Perform other duties as required by the client and business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Higher education qualification in a relevant science or engineering discipline (essential).
  • Degree in a Human Sciences subject and Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (desired).

Skills & Experience:

  • Effective collaboration, adaptability, leadership, decision-making engagement, planning, numeracy, literacy, communication, and data evaluation skills (essential).
  • Knowledge of engineering and project management principles, experience assessing hazards (desired).

Experience:

  • Experience in human factors assessment for high hazard processes (essential).
  • Experience in assessing radiological, chemical, and explosive hazards (desired).
