We are looking for
An experienced Human Factors Specialist with a background in safety-critical systems and infrastructure (marine, aviation), along with a good understanding of engineering, operational impacts, and safety processes.
Minimum 5 years of experience, ideally within operational environments.

The role
Key responsibilities:
- Contribute to Human Factors aspects of operational and design attributes, especially related to new vessel systems and layouts involving green fuel adoption.
- Lead development of policies, procedures, and risk assessments related to Human Factors in high-hazard activities, including Safety Critical Task Analysis and Design impacts.
- Possess strong experience with Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Human performance issues, particularly from a design perspective.
- Develop competencies and training frameworks to support training and competency programs for seafarers operating new technologies.
- Review incident investigations to extract lessons learned and inform future vessel design improvements.
- Build relationships with stakeholders such as research bodies, ship designers, owners, operators, and regulators.
- Work with risk teams to integrate Human Factors risk management into overall safety and environmental strategies.
- Have knowledge of safety processes, including HAZID and HAZOP, related to risk reduction.
- Desirable experience in high-hazard industries like maritime, process safety, or environmental regulations.
- Develop Human Reliability Analyses and incorporate them into QRA’s, understanding HEART, THERP, etc.
- Analyze operator tasks to influence design, identify issues, and implement improvements for safe operability.
- Assess workload and situation awareness to optimize operator performance and safety, including alarm management and onboard safe havens.
- Plan and conduct user trials through stakeholder collaboration to evaluate and optimize designs.
- Develop and analyze Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), especially related to Human Autonomous Teaming (HAT), providing guidance and mitigations.
- Assess HMI in new or modified vessel designs, providing industry guidance, recommendations, and new design philosophies.
You are someone who has:
- Chartered Member of the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors.
- MSc in Human Factors/Ergonomics, preferably with an operational or engineering focus.
- Maritime experience is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of alternative green fuels is desirable.
- Experience with Safety Critical Task Analysis in high-hazard facilities.
- Stakeholder management experience.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Practical risk management experience in high-hazard environments.
- Project management experience.
