Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Senior Health and Safety Advisor to support a major tunnelling project in Southwark, London. The role demands leadership in safety, health and sustainability, and close collaboration with Directors, Managers and the Client to uphold statutory duties and drive improvements.

The ideal candidate will have senior H&S membership (IOSH/NEBOSH/IEMA/CQI), extensive tunnelling experience, and strong knowledge of ISO 9001/14001 and BS OHSAS 18001, plus proficiency

Qualifications

• Senior-level H&S membership (IOSH/NEBOSH/IEMA/CQI)
• Extensive H&S experience, preferably in tunnelling
• Solid understanding of ISO 9001/14001 and BS OHSAS 18001
• MS Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and MS Project

Responsibilities

• Establish and lead best practice in safety, health and sustainability on the project.
• Advise and support Directors, Managers and Supervisors on H&S responsibilities.
• Liaise with Client regularly to build trust and positive relationships.
• Lead on ad-hoc health and safety projects and improvement plans.
• Ensure management controls ensure statutory duties are understood and followed.
• Lead site management teams to ensure compliance with requirements.
• Lead junior H&S Advisors where required.
• Contribute to a culture of Everyone Home Safe and Healthy every day.
• Conduct surveillance, inspections and audits and recommend improvements.
• Follow up outcomes from inspections and ensure actions are completed.
• Lead and oversee accident/incident investigations and recommend preventive actions.
• Manage H&S statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Develop and deliver lessons learned sessions and campaigns.
• Assist in induction processes and hub days for project personnel.
• Prepare and review H&S documents, method statements and third-party plans.
• Maintain records to ensure compliance with legislation and contract requirements.
• Provide reports and presentations as directed.
• Ensure KPIs are met by Partners.
