Key Requirements:

  1. Relevant professional qualification at degree level and/or demonstrable experience at a comparable level within a related professional field of expertise.
  2. Experience of working competently and confidently with legal material, including precedents, case law and legislation.
  3. Demonstrate broad based Human Resources experience in a large multi-functional organisation with an emphasis on employee relations (e.g. disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance, harassment, service reviews, and TUPE etc).
  4. Experience of undertaking transformational change, restructures and reviews keeping with relevant employment legislation requirements.
  5. Ability to advise on HR policies and procedures.

We are seeking a Senior HR Officer to deliver a range of high quality, efficient and effective Human Resources services to support senior leaders and managers to achieve their key strategic objectives. They will provide advice and support of both a generalist and specialist nature on complex human resources issues, i.e. disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance, harassment, service reviews, redundancy and TUPE.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Implement relevant and appropriate practices on a range of Human Resources issues, i.e., recruitment, retention, disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance, harassment, service reviews, and TUPE etc.
  2. Provide a professional and proactive approach to ensure that the Council takes the necessary steps in relation to transformational change, restructures and reviews and redundancy in keeping with current and future employment legislation requirements.
  3. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Trade Unions to resolve individual cases and deliver effective consultation on Human Resources issues.
  4. Understand and apply local and national terms and conditions of service, policies and practice to ensure consistent implementation and management of Human Resources issues across the Council.
  5. Manage, lead, support and develop Human Resources Officers and less experienced Human Resources staff to help meet section and team objectives and ensure that performance measures are met.
  6. Provide coaching, training and development to Leaders and Managers in best practice employee relations.
