Job summary

Durham County Council's Shotley Bridge Primary School in Consett, Durham, is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join for Autumn term 2026. The post is a permanent, full-time contract, 37 hours per week, term-time plus two weeks, starting 2nd November 2026.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality PPA cover, support delivery of the National Curriculum, assist with interventions for SEND, and contribute to whole-school development in a caring, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience of working across a primary school setting.
• Ability to provide exciting and stimulating learning opportunities for all children.

Responsibilities

• Providing high quality whole class PPA cover in classrooms, ensuring consistency, pace and high expectations for all learners
• Providing short-term cover of classes - both in planned and unexpected non-timetabled situations
• Working collaboratively with the teaching team to support the delivery of the National Curriculum
• Planning and managing resources
• Maintaining high standards in teaching and learning
• Delivering targeted interventions, 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
• Communicating effectively in English with customers and providing advice in accurate spoken English
