Job description

The Opportunity:

Avantor is seeking a dedicated and driven Senior Histology Scientist to join our team in Cambridge, UK. In this role, you’ll be responsible for providing expert histopathology support for our Translational Pathology Laboratories. These laboratories play a key role in supporting biomarker identification and analysis across multiple drug development projects, from early stages to clinical trials.

This full-time, permanent position is based at our state-of-the-art facility at The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The Team:

You'll be working alongside a skilled team supporting automated immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and in situ hybridization (ISH) assays. You’ll be part of our Lab and Production Services department, which provides comprehensive support to leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide, particularly within Research and Development in the Life Sciences sector.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education: Master’s degree in a science-related discipline and at least one year of experience in a relevant field
  • Experience:
  • Practical experience in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and in situ hybridization assays
  • Hands-on microscopy and digital slide scanning, especially in the examination of human pathology samples
  • Familiarity with human tissue samples and tissue-based histopathology methods
  • Strong knowledge of the Human Tissue Act and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) regulations, as well as related processes, operations, and compliance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

How You Will Thrive and Make an Impact:

  • Support scientists by assisting in daily histopathology tasks, including immunohistochemistry, digital slide scanning, and tissue sectioning from blocks
  • Perform automated staining techniques on clinical trial tissue samples to aid in biomarker analysis
  • Contribute to lab operations within the Clinical Translational Pathology area, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality data
  • Ensure strict compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards while performing laboratory tasks
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain accurate documentation and uphold laboratory safety and quality standards
