Our client, who is working with Hampshire County Council, is seeking a Highways Supervisor in Totton, Hampshire.

We are currently looking to recruit a Highways Supervisor to work on our Hampshire Highways contract in Totton. As a Supervisor, you will be part of our Operations Team responsible for delivering highways maintenance activities on behalf of Hampshire County Council.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Manage the daily operations of your Depot by providing line management to the Depot Coordinator, Store Person, and Operatives, including setting performance objectives, conducting reviews, and ensuring standards are met.
  2. Lead by example to foster a cohesive team focused on safe, timely, and cost-effective work delivery. Build strong relationships with scheduling and commercial teams to improve depot outputs.
  3. Ensure Depot compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Welfare legislation, and promote quality and best practices through ITPs, benchmarks, procedures, safety briefings, and communication.
  4. Investigate SHE incidents thoroughly, compile reports, and share learnings across the team and business.
  5. Build collaborative relationships with the Client through DRAB meetings and regular discussions about work, workstack, and budget. Understand the Contract options and assist in managing the Client's budget.
  6. Work with the Commercial team to understand weekly published numbers in the depot Cost & Value report and identify challenges and improvement opportunities.
  7. Participate in standby rota for Winter Maintenance and Emergency response services.
  8. Conduct regular meetings with Supervisors and Scheduling team to ensure efficient programming and timely resolution of safety defects.
  9. Coordinate with the training team to ensure effective training attendance and scheduling.
  10. Develop skills and knowledge in areas like Traffic Management, Materials, Specifications, Carbon Strategy, etc., to support contract improvements.
  11. Mentor apprentices under the apprenticeship scheme.
  12. Be flexible to cover other supervisors and support other Depots as needed.
  13. Maintain good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation relevant to the industry.
  14. Possess experience in the Highways industry, Sector Schemes, NRSWA, SSSTS, and CSCS (Supervisor).
  15. Be commercially aware, understanding how operational performance impacts overall business and client satisfaction.
  16. Exhibit role model behaviors to foster an effective, hardworking team delivering excellent customer service.
  17. Build strong relationships with customers through open and collaborative communication.
  18. Possess good IT skills (O365) and experience with work management systems and reporting.
  19. Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills to handle conflicting priorities.
  20. Take ownership of issues affecting the team and depot, using effective communication to achieve positive outcomes.
  21. Remain flexible, embrace change, and contribute positively to business initiatives.
