Job description

What You’ll Do

We are looking for an experienced heating engineering professional to lead the delivery of technical assurance and engineering oversight for heating and water booster systems across our homes and communal assets.

Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced heating engineering professional to lead the delivery of technical assurance and engineering oversight for heating and water booster systems across our homes and communal assets.

You will lead a specialist team responsible for the assurance of domestic heating, water booster and heat network systems. Through consistent inspections, audits and technical challenge, you will help ensure contractor works meet defined technical, safety and regulatory standards.

You will also lead the progression of our heat networks towards compliance with the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme, embedding best practice and supporting long‑term efficiency and regulatory readiness.

How You’ll Make a Difference

You will strengthen the safety, reliability and performance of heating and water systems by delivering a consistent and effective technical assurance service. Your leadership will improve confidence in contractor performance, support the early identification of technical risks and help maintain safe, compliant homes for residents.

How You’ll Do It
  • Manage heating, water booster and heat network engineering assurance, ensuring inspections, audits and technical reviews are planned, prioritised and completed consistently.
  • Lead, manage and develop the heating engineering team, setting clear expectations and ensuring colleagues have the capability, qualifications and support required to deliver high-quality assurance.
  • Oversee contractor works through effective technical challenge, monitoring performance, identifying underperformance and supporting improvements in quality and compliance.
  • Ensure inspection and assurance programmes are applied consistently, enabling the early identification of issues and reducing risks across heating and water services.
  • Lead the identification, resolution and escalation of complex technical issues, system failures and risks, ensuring they are addressed appropriately and promptly.
  • Assess heating and water booster works against relevant legislation, technical standards and organisational policies, supporting strong compliance outcomes.
  • Ensure certifications, inspection findings and technical records are accurate, complete and suitable for audit, supporting the integrity of asset and assurance data.
  • Use system data, inspection findings and performance information to identify recurring issues, improve service delivery and support future planning and system optimisation.
  • Work collaboratively with Heat Energy and Water, Operations and other engineering teams, while supporting planned works, upgrades, regulatory enquiries, complaints and technical investigations.
The ideal candidate

We believe great service starts with great people, and we are committed to recruiting and developing passionate, enthusiastic, and talented individuals who can add value to our thriving organisation.

You will bring significant experience of heating and gas service delivery within a regulated environment, including experience of heat networks, communal systems, compliance and auditing. You will be confident leading technical teams and contractors, managing technical risk and resolving complex engineering issues.

You will also be able to interpret performance and system data, communicate technical information clearly and provide evidence-based assurance to a range of stakeholders.

Pending confirmation of legislative changes, this role may require a qualification to demonstrate competence. If not already qualified, there may be an expectation to study towards a professional qualification.

Essential:
  • Valid commercial and domestic ACS gas qualifications, including COCN1, ICPN1, TPCP1/1A, CIGA1, CDGA1, CCN1 and CENWAT.
  • Significant experience in heating and gas service delivery, heat networks and communal systems, and compliance and auditing within a regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Gas Safety Regulations and heat network standards and guidance.
  • Experience managing technical or operational teams and contractors.
  • The ability to manage technical risk and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to interpret performance and system data.
  • The ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence.

This is a people manager role and will require you to maintain NHG’s Gas Safe registration requirements while ensuring the heating engineering team maintains the necessary qualifications and relevant continuing professional development.
