Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Work in a nursing team to maintain high standards of care.
  • Assist in running clinics and preparing rooms at start of day.
  • Provide regular patient progress reports and escalate changes.
  • Assist clinicians during clinics, including wound care, photography, and patient support.
  • Support day-case surgery lists and MOHS-related procedures as directed.
  • Coordinate flow in clinics and assist day-case admissions and recoveries.
  • Assist with clinical photography and patient mobilisation.
  • Oversee wound clinics and venesection where trained.
  • Participate in skin analytics clinics as directed.

Job Title: Healthcare Support Worker - Dermatology - Royal South Hants Hospital

Contract Type: Permanent

Under current Home Office rules, this role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.

Come and join our dynamic and friendly team! An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 3 Senior Health Care Assistant to work in the Southampton

Dermatology Centre based at the Royal South Hants Hospital. The Southampton Dermatology Centre operates from 08.00 – 18.00 Monday to Friday, with some optional out of hours/ weekend working.

You will be assisting in the management of the smooth running of clinics within the Department and Medical Outpatients Department and assisting the clinicians in our Day Case surgical rooms also leading the new upcoming Skin Analytics photograph clinics to name just a few of the varied job roles within the speciality of Dermatology.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
  • Work in a team of nursing staff and clinicians, ensuring high standards of care are developed and maintained within that team.
  • Assist in the smooth running of the various clinics (includes preparing and setting up at the start of the day and closing the clinic rooms once clinics have finished).
  • To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, immediately acting on any changes in the patient’s condition, and reporting them to the relevant health care professional.
  • Assist clinicians during clinics, taking clinical photographs, and observations, chaperoning patients, helping patients with undressing/dressing and mobilisation.
  • To assist consultant surgeons in the day case surgery operating rooms as well as the nurse surgeons in their operating lists, including MOHS surgery.
  • To facilitate the smooth running of various clinics (including Medical Outpatients) and to act as the flow coordinator of said clinics.
  • To provide assistance to clinicians during clinics, taking photographs, observations, helping patients with undressing/dressing and mobilisation.
  • To oversee admission and recovery and provide post operative care to our day case surgical patients.
  • To run independently (when deemed competent) wound clinic.
  • To be able to complete venesection.
  • To be competent in (after training) to take clinical photographs in new upcoming skin analytics clinics
  • To work in a team of nursing staff and clinicians, ensuring high standards of care are developed and maintained within that team.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 in care with acute units corresponding to specialty or equivalent experience
  • Completed secondary education
  • Experience in a caring role in acute hospital environment
  • Understanding of acute hospital environment and the role of SHCA
  • Ability to demonstrate clarity and breadth in use of English language
  • Completed Care Certificate
