If so, then Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting talented, committed individuals who share our vision, values and professional ambition. We currently have an opportunity to join our Pre-operative Assessment team at Kidderminster Treatment Centre on a 22.5 hour contract. As a Band 3 Healthcare assistant you will be responsible for seeing patients in Pre-operative Assessment support clinic to undertake investigations relevant to the patients assessment. This will include, but is not limited to, venepuncture, ECGs, MRSA swabbing and CPE sampling. You will also undertake thorough documentation via our online assessment tool, Synopsis. IT literacy is also integral to the job role.

Main duties of the job
As a Senior Healthcare assistant you will be expected to prep, plan and run your own clinic assigned to you via PAS. This will include health promotion, explaining patient information and clinical skills such as ECGs and Venepuncture. You will be supported by the Nursing team and the wider Countywide team to assist in the completion of patient's pre-assessments prior to their surgery date.

Job Purpose:The Senior Health Care Assistant is a member of the department team who implements prescribed care and/or undertakes some higher-level clinical activities as directed by a registered nurse. The main dimensions of the role are to:To support the professionally qualified staff and work under their direction to provide quality nursing care, therapy activity, treatments and procedures directly to patients.To mentor and supervise and teach Health Care Assistants.To lead and co-ordinate a range of clinical and non-clinical tasks and responsibilities undertaken by Health Care Assistants.To support the department and staff to provide a high quality service.It is important to have an understanding of the range of work procedures and practices that are required within Pre-Operative Assessment when caring for a range of patients from different specialties, this will be underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.
Key Duties:Assisting with General Aspects of Care:Be involved in patient booking in process as directed by registered nurseBe aware of the need to greet Patients, relatives & visitors to the unit and ascertain the purpose of their visit including the #CallMe initiative.Moving and handling of patients.Assisting patients and relatives to use wheelchairsAssist with patients mobilisation, ensuring safe environment and using appropriate techniques and aids when necessary.Assist the multi professional team to prepare and support patientsDressing/undressing of patients when undertaking investigationsSafe keeping of patients property/valuablesEscort of patients to and from lavatory.Assist in the care of relatives and visitors.Chaperone professional staff where appropriate.Measuring blood pressure, body temperature, pulse rate and respiration and completing the necessary documentation.Measuring patients height and weight as directed by a registered nurse and recording on the appropriate documentation.Undertaking investigations such as ECG, venepuncture and MRSA swabs.Be adaptable and flexible to working in various areas of the department as required.Dressing of unoccupied trolleys/couches, tying up of dirty linen bags and despatching to laundry.Cleaning and tidying clinic areas.Replenishing of stock cupboards.
Pre-Operative Assessment:To prepare clinical rooms for outpatient clinics to ensure a smooth running clinic. To put away stock and help maintain stock levels.Manage HCA pre-operative assessment clinics and escalate any concerns with patients to trained nurses
Communications and Relationships:Demonstrate an ability to communicate with patients with varying needs i.e.; Elderly, Sensory impaired, Language differences.The Healthcare Assistants relationship with both staff and patients should be discreet, bearing in mind that all information regarding patients must be kept confidential.Report to the nurse in charge of the unit matters of concern relating to patients and the unit environment.Answer the telephone, refer to appropriate person.Attend to unit reports and meetings when appropriate.Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of health and safety at work in order to maintain a safe environment.Undertake duties outside your working area (e.g. delivery and collection) to assist in maintaining good communications.Participate in patient handovers.Present Professional image appropriate to the working environment.
