The Senior Health & Safety Manager reports to the Fibre & Network Delivery senior management team. They ensure health, safety, and sustainability standards are followed in the Fibre & Network Delivery programs and external partner organizations, with a focus on CDM regulations. As Health & Safety Senior Manager, you will be responsible for developing and delivering health, safety, and sustainability strategies across the Fibre and Network Delivery business. You will provide professional, technical, and administrative guidance on HSS decisions critical to Openreach’s Reach 26 program and FND’s objectives, operations, and profitability.
What you’ll be doing
- Operate as an SME in HSE, leading teams in the implementation of global HSE policies, aligning with the wider strategy.
- Direct teams in maintaining and implementing local operating procedures that meet both Group’s HSE Management System and local laws.
- Drive talent and resource allocation for HSE functions, including developing management information reports for risk, business assurance, and compliance teams.
- Support teams in ensuring adherence to robust processes that exceed legal HSE requirements and establish an HSE assurance program.
- Foster collaborative working relationships within the function and with external stakeholders to promote high standards of HSE.
- Manage relationships with third parties, including enforcement agencies, clients, and customers, to reduce risk and enhance the Group's HSE reputation.
- Ensure all locations are risk profiled, and profiling informs HSE compliance monitoring.
- Mentor, coach, and manage a team to develop capabilities and performance.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance HSE processes.
Essential Skills
- Experience in process governance and producing critical reports with recommendations.
- Relevant engineering and construction experience, specifically in CDM.
- Minimum NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent safety qualification.
- Minimum Degree level environmental qualification or equivalent.
- Membership in recognized safety/environmental professional institutes.
- Auditor qualifications (ISO/).
- Ability to provide onsite coaching and technical safety advice.
- Understanding of Network Services Handbooks and H&S Handbooks.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
