Job description

Senior Health & Safety Advisor – Civil / Infrastructure

A regional Civil Engineering and Groundworks Contractor is seeking to appoint a SHEQ Advisor to enhance our existing team. This role will be based across sites in the South East or at our HQ in Kent.

Reporting to the Company Directors, the SHEQ Advisor will be an integral part of the Project Management team, providing support and guidance to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all involved in the project. This will involve working closely within the team to eliminate risks during planning and engaging with the supply chain at all levels to ensure the highest standards of SHEQ compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Promoting our health and safety culture at all levels within the company and with subcontractors;
2. Ensuring safe working practices that comply with legislation;
3. Reviewing subcontractor documentation, including safe systems of work;
4. Assisting in the development of health and safety strategies and internal policies;
5. Leading health & safety initiatives to raise awareness of risks and hazards;
6. Providing in-house training for managers and employees;
7. Conducting regular site inspections to ensure policy adherence;
8. Carrying out accident and incident investigations as required.

Essential qualities for the successful candidate:

1. Professionally qualified within the SHEQ field (NEBOSH/NCRQ, BSc or MSc in Safety);
2. Proven experience as an operational SHEQ Advisor within the construction industry;
3. Thorough knowledge of current health, safety, and environmental legislation;
4. Knowledge of quality standards, audit procedures, and management systems;
5. Experience in accident and incident investigations;
6. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
7. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and influence others positively;
8. IT literacy;
9. CSCS Card.
