Purpose

As Senior Health and Safety Advisor within SPT (Transmission) Projects, you will provide Health and Safety professional advice to direct and guide multiple Project Teams (currently 240 projects).

Delivering Health and Safety services to over 350 employees and agency professionals within SPT and to 800-1000 Contractors based at our project construction sites, as part of our supply chain for the RIIO-T3 price control period, you will ensure the delivery of multiple multi-million pound energy construction projects and that client interface activities remain a primary focus along with proactive monitoring, reviewing and reporting on performance.

You will support the project team throughout the project lifecycle with the effective coordination of Contractor safe works methodologies and client interface activities.

This will involve interaction with Construction, Engineering, Project Management, Contractors and other project stakeholders to ensure effective works planning and coordination regarding Health and safety performance to ensure everyone affected by activities remain safe. This will necessitate advising, coaching, mentoring, influencing and monitoring best practice projects safety management aligned and fully compliant with CDM 2015 Regulations, ensuring statutory obligations required of the Duty Holders are applied throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Providing professional Health & Safety direction and advice to Project teams including Senior management, you will be responsible for the pro-active delivery of the delegated aspects of the annual departmental Health & Safety operating plan and all-employee Health and Safety initiatives within your project portfolio.

Actively influencing teams and individuals to encourage and support the implementation of measures to effectively demonstrate legal compliance, you will contribute to the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the Health and Safety Management System within your areas of responsibility, covering all works and activities performed by the company.

Performing and meeting Health and Safety monitoring targets (audits and inspections), you will provide professional advice and support to incident investigations from minor events to Panel of Inquiry incidents, contributing and delivering Health and Safety initiative projects and agreed deliverables.

Proactively influencing and engaging with internal and external stakeholders with a view to improving Health and Safety performance, you will develop opportunities for best-practice exchanges across the business including regular facilitation of workshops and meetings.

Being responsible for promotion, development and review of projects which support the delivery of the Health and Safety policy and strategy, you will also support the governance and assurance of H&S within your areas of responsibility, liaise with external and internal technical specialists as appropriate and act as subject matter expert for certain H&S topics or hazards.

Pro-actively benchmarking internally and externally to improve SPT H&S performance from latest process and procedures to latest technologies, you will establish, monitor and control a safe working environment within the area where responsible.

What you'll bring

You will possess an Occupational Health and Safety degree or equivalent Health and Safety qualification at European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 5 to 8, together with training in Structured Incident Investigation techniques.

As an IOSH member registered for Initial Professional Development (IPD) and participating in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme, you will bring proven Health and Safety experience gained within engineering or construction environments.

You will have a strong track record of delivering Health and Safety audits and inspections across large business areas, producing and presenting insightful reports, serving as a trusted subject matter expert. This includes developing policies and procedures, promoting best practice and coaching stakeholders to achieve high Health and Safety standards.

A full UK driving licence is required.
