Job description

Senior Health & Safety Specialist needed in Bristol, paying £40 per hr, ref 366712

Full-time hours on a temporary basis

About the Role:
  • Lead health & safety specialist for all matters related to the highway service, ensuring risk management measures are considered and implemented.
  • Manage staff resources to ensure compliance with health & safety procedures and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Liaise with other StreetCare services to ensure consistent health and safety practices across the division and provide additional resources when necessary.
  • Act as a competent person as required by regulation 7 of the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
  • Engage at all levels to develop service policies and procedures, set priorities, support implementation, monitor performance, and ensure statutory requirements are met.
  • Build a business case for interventions, identifying resource and budget needs, and monitor budgets accordingly.
  • Adhere to corporate health & safety policies, including reporting requirements.
  • Contribute as a critical member of the project team for the CRSTS Highways project, ensuring documentation is maintained and updated.
Main Activities:
  • Policy: Collaborate with project and operational teams to develop policies, procedures, and health & safety management plans.
  • Operational Support: Provide expert advice, implement policies, manage risks, identify non-compliance trends, and support incident management.
  • Monitoring: Track health & safety performance, analyze trends, recommend improvements, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Liaison: Work closely with the Corporate Health & Safety Team, enforcement agencies, contractors, managers, local councillors, the public, employees, and unions.
