Job summary

At King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, our Haematology and Cancer Services teams are at the forefront of providing exceptional care and treatment to those affected by cancer and haematological conditions.

We are now seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Head of Nursing to lead and develop our nursing teams, ensuring the highest standards of care and clinical excellence.

This is a full-time, permanent role, and would be ideally suited to an existing senior nurse looking to take the next step in their career.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Clinical Directors and working in partnership with the General Managers, the Senior Head of Nursing for Haematology and Cancer Services is a key member of the care group management teams, enabling the delivery of outstanding services in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints as set out in the business plans for the services delivered by the care groups.

Working with senior nursing colleagues in the care groups, the divisional team and in the office of the Chief Nurse, the post holder has a key role to play in the development of the strategic vision for nursing across the sites and wider Trust.

The Senior Head of Nursing provides the daily support and leadership for nurses and clinical support staff, ensuring patients and staff are safe, cared for and listened to.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide all necessary support to the overall leadership, direction and management of nursing staff within the care groups.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of care group business plans and service strategy.
  • Manage the delegated revenue budgets for the nursing workforce and ensure care group fiscal responsibility.
  • Act as a positive role model through the provision of effective, authoritative and accessible professional leadership.
  • To lead on the survivorship agenda, supporting initiatives such as the delivery of all Personalised Cancer Care elements.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife, 1st Level/1st Level Degree
  • Masters level qualification or evidence of post graduate study (or equivalent experience
  • Current NMC registration, UK
Knowledge and Experience
  • Recent experience at senior nurse level in an acute Health Care setting
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in the operational management of hospital services
  • Proven ability to manage a budget/multiple budgets
  • Proven experience in develop in Trust wide strategy
