Job summary

nCipher Security, an Entrust Datacard company, is expanding its hardware engineering team at the Cambridge Office. The role focuses on design, implementation, testing and review of secure hardware platforms and HSM-related subsystems.

You will work within a collaborative Security Product Engineering team to deliver high reliability hardware, mentor colleagues, and contribute to Agile development cycles.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified or equivalent in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience in hardware security or secure product design is a plus.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high quality hardware security modules (HSM) meeting customer needs.
  • Hands-on development of product subsystems and hardware designs.
  • Carry out hardware design, prototyping and validation within Agile product development.
  • Provide architectural support to develop product roadmap and future requirements.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and stakeholders to set priorities for hardware platforms.
  • Plan work with the Engineering team to align dependencies and commitments.
  • Prototype, integrate and demonstrate hardware platforms in system demos.
  • Ensure change control, testability and manufacturability; mentor junior team members.

The purpose of this role is to work within a collaborative Security Product Engineering team, playing a key role in the design, implementation, test and review of new hardware designs, including; maintaining the company’s existing quality product security hardware platforms.

The successful candidate will either have strong existing knowledge of secure product design principles, or be enthusiastic with a demonstrable ability to rapidly acquire domain knowledge.

Key Responsibilities And Activities
  • develop high quality hardware security modules (HSM) meeting the needs of our customers
  • hands-on development of product subsystems
  • carry out the hardware design, prototyping and validation activities associated with Agile product development
  • provide architectural support to help develop the product roadmap and ensure solutions meet future product requirements
  • work collaboratively with Product Management and other stakeholders to establish and agree high level needs and priorities for product hardware platforms
  • plan work collaboratively with the whole Engineering team to ensure that dependencies and planning commitments are understood and observed
  • regularly prototype, integrate and demonstrate hardware platforms as part of "system demos"
  • ensure on-going change control, testability and manufacturability of our hardware designs provide support and direction to less experienced team members
Skills And Capability
  • at least 5+ years of demonstrable experience of high speed digital design on high performance embedded systems
  • experience developing products with 32 or 64 bit processors, high speed interfaces & memory devices
  • the ability to analyse complex technical problems and offer innovative, reasoned and practical solutions to demanding requirements
  • experience with microcontroller development and efficient low power design techniques
  • appreciation of the fundamentals of: analogue, RF, electro-mechanical and mechanical engineering
  • experience of signal integrity analysis, design for EMC, safety and relevant regulatory standards
  • experience of professionalECAD systems - ideally Altium
  • ideally, experience of design and implementation of security products
  • excellent verbal and written skills
  • recognized as a mentor
