Join us to solve complex, real-time payment challenges at global scale. We share knowledge freely, take ownership of complexity and look for people who question how things are done and find better ways to build.

Role Title: Senior Group Accountant

Location: London, Hybrid

Role Purpose

Boku is the world's leading provider of local payment solutions, connecting global merchants to consumers through mobile-first payment methods across more than 90 countries. Group Finance is on a finance transformation journey - accelerating the month end close, strengthening balance sheet control, and automating core accounting processes across a multi-entity, multi-currency group.

Reporting to the General Ledger Manager, you will take ownership of key components of the group close and balance sheet, act as a safe pair of hands-on technical accounting matters and contribute directly to process improvement and automation initiatives. This is a genuine step-up opportunity: You will operate with real autonomy, work with senior finance leadership, and help shape how a listed fintech runs its financial control function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own key elements of the group month end close, including preparation and review of prepayment, accrual and payroll journals, intercompany, FX and balance sheet revaluations and general ledger postings across multiple entities and currencies, delivering to a disciplined close timetable.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations in line with group policy and materiality thresholds, ensuring balances are fully substantiated, ageing items are resolved and issues are escalated with clear analysis.
  • Perform intercompany reviews of postings, reconciliations and settlements, support the clearance of historical balances and contribute to the implementation of an intercompany automation module.
  • Support FX accounting across the group, helping document and strengthen the end-to-end FX process, ownership and controls.
  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives within the general ledger team, making full use of Dynamics 365 and emerging AI-enabled tools to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
  • Provide timely and clear response and support for the half year review and year-end audit, own assigned deliverables E2E and contribute to the remediation of any audit findings
  • Collaborate closely with broader finance teams including Financial Control, New Products, Statutory Reporting and Finance Transformation teams, fostering knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Deputise for the General Ledger Manager where required and take on ad hoc projects across financial control as the transformation progresses.
Measures of Success
  • Reliable close - Assigned close activities are accurate and delivered within the agreed timetable, with minimal rework or late adjustments.
  • Balance sheet control - Reconciliations are timely and fully substantiated; ageing items have clear action plans and material issues are escalated promptly.
  • Intercompany and FX - Intercompany and FX issues are identified, resolved and controlled effectively, reducing unexplained differences and recurring issues.
  • Process improvement - Meaningful improvements to GL processes, controls or automation are delivered, reducing manual effort, risk or processing time.
  • Ownership and collaboration - Operates independently, anticipates risks, communicates clearly across Finance and provides reliable GL Manager cover when required.
Key Skills and Competencies
  • Professional experience: Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent) with approximately 2-4 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Background: Audit-trained (ideally at a top-tier firm) and/or experience within FinTech, payments or broader Financial Services.
  • Technical accounting: Strong double-entry and month-end close fundamentals; experience of complex group structures with multiple entities and currencies, intercompany accounting and balance sheet substantiation.
  • Systems and data: Hands-on ERP experience (Dynamics 365 highly desirable), advanced Excel, and confidence handling large, intricate data sets; an interest in automation and AI-enabled finance tools.
  • Controls mindset: A controls-first approach - comfortable documenting processes, applying reconciliation policies and thresholds, and supporting audit and ICFR-style requirements.
  • Personal attributes: Takes genuine ownership, works to tight deadlines, communicates clearly with senior stakeholders, and challenges the status quo constructively - someone who improves the process rather than just running it.
Qualifications
  • Essential: Membership of a recognised professional accountancy body (ACA ACCA, CPA or equivalent).
  • Desirable: Strong academic background, ideally including a university degree in a business, accountancy or related discipline.
