Job summary

Vertical Recruitment Limited is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join an established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in the North West. The role focuses on owning technical delivery, client engagement and progressing toward Principal level, with hands-on involvement in ground investigations, design and reporting.

You will work on rail, industrial and civil projects, coordinating ground investigations, interpreting data and delivering geotechnical solutions across foundations,

Qualifications

• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or related discipline.
• 5–8 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering or consulting.
• Experience planning and coordinating ground investigations, site works and contractor management.
• Strong technical reporting, ground interpretation and geotechnical assessment skills.
• Design experience across foundations, retaining structures, earthworks or ground improvement.
• Familiarity with geotechnical analysis and design software.
• Experience managing technical packages or smaller projects (programme, budget, quality).
• Confidence working with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
• Understanding of UK geotechnical design standards, Eurocodes and CDM requirements.
• Progress towards Chartered Engineer/Geologist status and a full UK driving licence.
• Rail, infrastructure, mining, waste or complex development project experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage ground investigations, including site works, testing programmes and specialist contractors.
• Interpret ground investigation data and prepare geotechnical reports, ground models and technical recommendations.
• Undertake geotechnical design and assessment across foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, slopes and ground improvement.
• Manage projects and technical packages, including programmes, fees, resources and deliverables.
• Support design and assessment of embankments, cuttings, platforms and other ground engineering works.
• Provide technical advice during construction, including responding to site queries and reviewing contractor proposals.
• Collaborate with civil, structural and environmental engineers, clients and contractors to develop coordinated solutions.
• Support junior engineers and technicians, reviewing technical work and contributing to development.
• Assist with technical proposals, project reporting and client relationship development.
