Overview

Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Harrogate. This role is based in Harrogate for Coffey Geotechnics, a Tetra Tech Company. Coffey Geotechnics is a specialist consultancy providing geotechnical and engineering geological design services from offices in Harrogate, Manchester and Reading (UK).

About the role

A P4 Senior Geotechnical Engineering Consultant plans and conducts professional work without detailed supervision, but with guidance on unusual features. Responsible for the management and results of projects. The role represents the company with clients, consultants and contractors, developing relationships and exploring opportunities to increase workload and revenue. The role also establishes professional standards and procedures and shares knowledge with others, acting as a mentor and assisting in the development of more junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Be an ambassador for Coffey in the ground engineering field; promote our interests and reputation
• Protect our confidential information and intellectual property
• Follow our policies, procedures and code of conduct
• Play an active role in safety for yourself and others
• Manage projects with a degree of technical complexity
• Be prepared to travel for project-related work when required (UK or abroad, including working from other Coffey offices or client sites)

Essential Skills

• Enthusiasm and a keen interest in continually developing geotechnical consultancy skills
• Apply detailed theoretical knowledge of geotechnical engineering and project management principles
• Proficient in spreadsheets and industry software (e.g., FREW, SLIDE, Settle 3D, PLAXIS or equivalent)
• Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications
• Understanding of the operating model of a specialist consulting business
• Ability to develop innovative and practical solutions that create client value
• Ability to promote technical capabilities and service offerings in client-facing roles
• Ability to identify and convert new business opportunities with existing and new clients
• Clear and concise written and oral communication
• Good interpersonal skills and strong team focus

• Understanding of operating model of a specialist consulting business
• Ability to contribute to new or original techniques in design through innovative solutions
• Client-facing abilities to promote technical capabilities and services

Relevant Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Geology or Civil Engineering or similar
• Postgraduate qualification (MSc, MEng or PhD) in a related field (e.g., hydrogeology/engineering geology/geotechnical engineering) is an advantage
• Chartered or working towards Chartered status through an appropriate professional body

Other

• Potential for project-dependent security clearance to be requested
• A current UK Driving Licence is preferred
