Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join our Stroud team. The role focuses on high-profile residential, commercial, infrastructure and energy projects, delivering foundations, earthworks, slopes and allied solutions.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in civil/geotechnical engineering, be chartered or working towards chartership, and bring extensive consultancy experience, strong soil mechanics knowledge, and client liaison skills.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered status or working towards Chartership.
• Extensive experience in geotechnical design consultancy.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation design and earthworks.
• Experience using geotechnical design software and numerical modelling packages.
• Proven ability to manage projects and mentor junior engineers.
• Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
• Commercial awareness and experience liaising with clients.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of foundations, retaining structures, slopes and earthworks solutions.
• Undertake complex geotechnical analysis and design calculations.
• Review and interpret ground investigation data and geotechnical reports.
• Prepare and review technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
• Manage projects from initial feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction support.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.
• Attend client meetings and develop strong professional relationships.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
• Undertake site visits and provide technical support during construction phases.
• Ensure compliance with relevant design standards, legislation and industry best practice.
• Support business development activities, including tender preparation and project proposals.

Requirements for the role of Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
• Chartered status (or working towards Chartership) with a relevant professional body
• Extensive experience within a geotechnical design consultancy environment
