Curve Group is seeking a Senior Geophysicist to lead near-surface geophysics projects, guiding design, acquisition, interpretation and reporting. You will mentor a team and act as a senior client contact, ensuring high-quality, defensible outputs.
Ideal candidates will have postgraduate geophysics training, broad method experience (GPR, EM, magnetometry, seismic, etc.), and a strong track record in delivering complex investigations for infrastructure and environmental clients.
Project Delivery and Client Leadership | £45,000-£60,000
From investigating a mine shaft in someone's garden to helping deliver a £1m investigation across kilometres of peat bog - how much variety does your current role offer?
We're recruiting for a specialist geophysical consultancy whose work spans infrastructure, engineering, environmental, utilities and asset management. Projects tackle practical questions about what lies beneath the surface, from bedrock profiles and buried utilities to unexploded ordnance.
This opportunity offers an experienced near-surface geophysicist greater ownership of that work, combining technical judgement with project delivery, client relationships and the development of others.
You'll guide investigations from proposal and survey design through acquisition, interpretation and final reporting, helping clients understand the findings and make informed decisions. Around 10% fieldwork is envisaged. You might help mobilise a technically challenging survey, establish the right approach and check data quality before the field team continues acquisition. Your focus then moves to interpretation, technical assurance and getting clear, defensible reports into clients' hands. You'll work alongside a geophysics team of around 25, providing technical guidance and mentoring while existing managers retain operational team management.
You’ll have a strong background in applied near-surface geophysics, with evidence of personally leading projects, producing high-quality technical reports and managing client conversations.
Experience across several methods would be valuable, including GPR, electromagnetics, magnetometry, microgravity, resistivity/IP or seismic. Strong expertise in one method, supported by an understanding of complementary techniques, may also be considered.
You’ll be commercially aware, comfortable balancing technical quality with delivery deadlines, and keen to share your knowledge. Relevant processing, interpretation and GIS software experience is expected.
The current specification also requires a postgraduate degree in geophysics or a related discipline.
£45,000-£60,000 base salary.
Site day payments and overtime where applicable.
Varied projects, a broad equipment pool and direct influence over technical delivery.
Approximately 10% fieldwork, with UK travel and selected international assignments.
Primarily office-based when not on site; any hybrid flexibility would need to be agreed.
