The role requires leading technical teams, developing fracture and creep-fatigue methodologies, and delivering high-quality reports. Onsite work at Culham is typical, with flexible working options and strong emphasis on safety and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • PhD in solid mechanics or equivalent experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of design criteria, codes, and integrity assessment methods.
  • Solid background in engineering design, analysis and structural modelling.
  • Experience supervising multi-disciplinary teams and writing bids/proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead work packages for in‑vessel systems from concept to detailed design.
  • Develop structural integrity criteria and verification methodologies for fusion plants.
  • Coordinate design substantiation, reviews, and technical documentation.
  • Manage supplier acceptance, testing, and integration into systems.
  • Present technical results at conferences and prepare reports/publications.
  • Support business development activities and bids as needed.
