Job summary

Electus Recruitment Solutions seeks a passionate Functional Safety Engineer in Bristol to lead safety activities across complex engineering projects. You will own safety deliverables, develop safety cases, and liaise with clients to define scope and manage risks.

The role requires practical experience with hazard analysis, risk assessment and standards such as IEC 61508/61511, plus the ability to obtain SC clearance in this regulated sector.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of recognised functional safety standards such as IEC 61508 or IEC 61511.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.

Job description

Summary

Build your functional safety expertise through exposure to complex, safety-critical engineering across regulated sectors. You will take technical ownership, work across varied projects and develop your profile as a specialist in functional safety.

Where you will be based

Bristol-based with a hybrid working pattern, combining office, client site and home working. This is a permanent, full-time role.

Your role

• Lead functional safety activities across complex engineering projects from early concept through to delivery and commissioning


• Specify, design and assess control, instrumentation and safety systems


• Apply hazard analysis and risk assessment techniques to safety-critical engineering challenges


• Lead multidisciplinary technical interfaces and support engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle


• Produce, review and approve technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation


• Work directly with clients to define requirements, manage technical scope and address project risks

Your experience

• Strong knowledge of process control systems and associated electrical, control and instrumentation documentation


• Experience with techniques such as HAZOP, LOPA, SIL determination, FMEA and FTA


• Working knowledge of functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 61511, ISO 13849, DO-178 or DO-254


• Experience delivering projects within regulated or safety-critical sectors


• Strong technical report writing and client-facing communication skills


• Relevant engineering degree or equivalent professional experience and qualifications
