Job summary

An experienced Food Inspection Officer / Environmental Health Officer is sought to join a busy Local Authority Environmental Health team. The role centres on the Council’s Food Safety function, performing programmed food hygiene inspections across a range of premises.

You will inspect, audit and monitor food businesses in line with the FSA Food Law Code of Practice, investigate complaints and potential breaches, and prepare notices or support legal proceedings when required.

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc in Environmental Health or equivalent relevant experience.
• FSA Food Law Code of Practice competency / Authorised Officer status.
• Previous food hygiene inspection experience.
• Strong knowledge of food safety legislation.
• Experience of enforcement and investigation work.
• Local Authority experience is highly desirable.
• Ability to independently manage and prioritise a caseload.
• Driving licence/access to transport or ability to travel across the area.

Responsibilities

• Carry out programmed food hygiene inspections across a range of premises.
• Inspect, audit and monitor food businesses in accordance with legislation and the FSA Food Law Code of Practice.
• Investigate complaints and potential food safety breaches; provide professional advice and determine enforcement actions.
• Prepare statutory notices, gather evidence, produce reports and support legal proceedings.
