Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking a Senior FM Engineer to lead technical management of the council's estate. You will guide planned, reactive and capital maintenance, ensuring safety, compliance and value for money across a large public sector portfolio.

As technical lead, you will shape investment decisions, collaborate with Facilities Management and Strategic Assets, and manage contractors to improve building performance and energy efficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong technical knowledge of building services engineering and/or building fabric.
• Experience of managing contractors and maintenance programmes.
• Ability to translate technical information into practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, procurement and delivery of planned preventative maintenance and lifecycle replacement across a diverse estate.
• Provide expert professional advice on mechanical, electrical and building fabric matters to colleagues and stakeholders.
• Manage maintenance and improvement projects from inception to completion, on time and within budget.
• Oversee contractors and consultants, monitoring performance and compliance.
• Support development of long-term asset management and investment strategies.
• Identify and mitigate building-related risks in line with legislation and best practice.
• Undertake condition assessments and priority setting for maintenance needs.
• Act as a key stakeholder in capital works and estate improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to sustainability and decarbonisation goals by improving energy efficiency.
