Job summary

Laborup in the Birmingham area is seeking a Senior Fitter/Welder for the 2nd shift. The ideal candidate will independently fit, assemble and weld structural and precision metal components from blueprints while maintaining exceptional quality and safety standards.

Role responsibilities include taking projects from layout through final weld, verifying proper fit-up and dimensions, inspecting welds, and producing high-quality work before it moves to production.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of fitting and welding experience in manufacturing or fabrication.
• Proficiency with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes.
• Strong blueprint reading and weld symbol interpretation.
• Experience fitting and assembling fabricated steel components.
• Ability to use grinders, cutting torches, measuring tools and fabrication equipment.
• AWS certification is a plus but not required.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Fit and assemble metal components from blueprints and drawings.
• Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on varied parts.
• Read weld symbols and fabrication drawings.
• Verify fit-up, dimensions, and alignment before welding.
• Inspect welds and assemblies for quality.
• Operate grinders, torches and power tools safely.
• Troubleshoot fitment and welding issues and perform repairs.
• Maintain production and inspection records.
• Keep work areas clean and follow PPE procedures.
• Collaborate with supervisors and engineers to meet schedules.
