Senior Firmware Engineer

Harlow

Raytheon UK is looking for an experienced and high performing Firmware Engineer to join a successful Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (APNT) team within the Global Sensors Mission Area, creating Digital GPS Anti-Jam Systems for the military market. The role will be based at Raytheon's Harlow facility and the successful candidate will report directly to the APNT Hardware Engineering Lead.

The Senior Firmware Engineer will be able to make their mark on a broad and varied range of product designs and will be expected to assist in the integration of these designs into products, being the focal point for the complete system.

Main Duties:

  1. Develop requirements to ensure compliance to the relevant standards.
  2. Create and manage architectures for firmware, mainly FPGAs.
  3. Understand, decompose and verify firmware requirements.
  4. Define and perform unit level and sub system level testing for embedded firmware.
  5. Work alongside our embedded system, software and electronic design engineers.
  6. Generate supporting design documentation and perform regular technical reviews.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:

  1. Experience creating firmware architectures.
  2. Experience testing and verifying requirements.
  3. Experience working with FPGAs and SoC technologies.
  4. Ability to program in VHDL.
  5. Able to present technical information clearly and concisely to others.
  6. Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. An openness to learn and try new techniques.
  8. Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment - working independently or with others to overcome obstacles.
  9. Capable of analysing and reporting on technical data.
  10. Eligible or holder of current SC security clearance.
Desirable:

  1. Experience using the Vivado and Vitis design tools, or equivalent.
  2. Experience working with the Xilinx chip family.
  3. Experience delivering embedded firmware as part of a product.
  4. Experience creating embedded system architectures.
  5. Familiarity with the application of a systems engineering approach across the design and development lifecycle.
  6. Knowledge of defence engineering / airborne standards.
  7. Working with Model Based System Engineering tools such as Simulink.
